Jane Evans Chinese Brush Painting is a versatile, expressive medium which offers exciting, unfamiliar techniques and a fresh approach to composition. This one day workshop in Chinese Brush Painting is suitable for both beginners and experienced brush painters.
Beginners will receive tuition in the fundamentals of Chinese Brush Painting and they will explore the properties of the materials – the 4 Treasures, particularly the brush which is the most versatile painting tool ever invented and the versatility of the techniques and the interrelationship between the two. They will be introduced to the 4 Friends and have a chance to try at least 2 of these for themselves.
Experienced brush painters will work to individually tailored programmes and have a chance to explore this exciting and versatile medium in more depth; to improve their existing techniques, to discover new techniques and possibilities. Please let us know when booking if you have done CBP before?
All students will receive one-to-one tuition.
Jane studied Chinese Brush Painting with Chen Bingsun at the Chinese Artists’ Guild in the Philippines and with Hau Chiok and Sy Chiu Hua at the Philippine Chinese Art Centre. After returning to Britain, Jane continued to develop her painting, exploring the versatility of Chinese techniques and materials by using them in adventurous ways. Drawing on Eastern and Western ideas about light, space and perspective, she has evolved a highly original style, creating colourful abstracted paintings that represent a fusion of both aesthetic traditions.
Overall winner of the SAA’s Artist of the year in 1999 was the beginning of Marilyn’s art career. She shortly afterwards had a painting accepted in the RI exhibition in the Mall Galleries. She appeared on Chanel 4’s Watercolour challenge, more recently appearing as the guest artist in Fraser & Friends, a splash of colour and SAA live workshops. She has written 3 books People are scary (really), Animals on the Loose & Painting Dorset in Watercolour. She regularly writes articles for the Paint magazine. Her extensive travels around the world teaching on cruise ships inspire her which she brings to her workshops & demonstrations. She is a loose impressionistic painter capturing light & movement in her work.
