Denise Allen

Denises’s work is divided into many creative areas. Her first love is painting. She has been working with the SAA for some time. She has been involved with demonstrating at the All About Art shows in London, where she was working with Daler Rowney and the Georgian water mixable oils. She took part in the tv series Fraser and Friends painting with Fraser Scarf in Ware in Hertfordshire. I have taken workshop sessions at the SAA headquarters in Newark. She have also created a DVD with the SAA. She has been demonstrating to Art societies and groups for many years.

Denise teaches in a very relaxed and calm manor, Bringing out all sorts of artist liberating ideas. Creating your own unique paintings with her help.

Phil Biggs

Phil has been painting purely in watercolour for over thirty years now after being inspired by James Fletcher-Watson’s first book in colour…The Magic of Watercolour.  He has followed the course he set out; striving to achieve light and atmosphere in his work, painting en plein air as often as possible and using a limited palette.  I have been influenced by the 20th century English landscape painters, Ted Wesson, Edward Seago, Australian Bob Wade and lately by American painters such as Dan Marshall.

Over the past six years he has found great joy in providing demonstrations and workshops for Art Societies up and down the land and I love passing on his love for the medium and seeing students achieve great results.

There is still nothing he loves more than being out in the British weather trying to catch her moods and lay them down on paper.

In his workshops he emphasises the importance of light and tone in the composition as it provides our focal point.  He hopes that his students come away with a painting full of atmosphere and drama to bring the subject alive. To take that experience on to further work.

Marilyn Allis

Overall winner of the SAA’s Artist of the year in 1999 was the beginning of Marilyn’s art career. She shortly afterwards had a painting accepted in the RI exhibition in the Mall Galleries. She appeared on Chanel 4’s Watercolour challenge, more recently appearing as the guest artist in Fraser & Friends, a splash of colour and SAA live workshops. She has written 3 books People are scary (really), Animals on the Loose & Painting Dorset in Watercolour. She regularly writes articles for the Paint magazine. Her extensive travels around the world teaching on cruise ships inspire her which she brings to her workshops & demonstrations. She is a loose impressionistic painter capturing light & movement in her work

Marilyn will take you through a few warm ups to get the feel of loose painting. Encouraging you to loosen up and be free. We will complete a traditional watercolour painting, with strong tones. We will also experiment with Metallic watercolour and mirror chrome mixed media.
